Funding opportunities
The following undergraduate research funding opportunity could be used to support student research in a future MCL project:
LASURI. The Liberal Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Initiative is an annual competitive grant from UIC’s LAS for undergraduates working on a semester or year-long research project with a faculty sponsor. Applications usually open in January and are due around 1 March for the following academic year. The funding provides a $1250 award per semester for the student and $500 per semester in research funds for the faculty sponsor. Open to UIC students in the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Conferences
MCL strongly encourages our participants to present their work at conferences and poster sessions, for example by applying to any of the speaking opportunities listed below:
Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Undergraduate Poster Session at the annual AMS-MAA Joint Mathematics Meetings (every January, location varies).
SRF (every April). UIC’s Student Research Forum is organized by a group of UIC students every April and is open to undergraduates in all areas. It is a fantastic venue to present your research. Deadlines will be announced in the spring term.
YMC (every fall). The Young Mathematicians Conference takes place at The Ohio State University every year. Accepted students receive full travel support. The application process to present is competitive.
UMS (every November). The Undergraduate Mathematics Symposium is organized by UIC faculty. The symposium features several outside speakers giving talks for undergraduate students, and it provides students with an opportunity to present their own work.
CASSC (every spring). The Chicago Area SIAM Student Conference is a collaborative effort of the UIC, Northwestern, and IIT SIAM chapters. The details of the 2019 conference have not yet been announced.
AMS Sectional Meetings. Each year there are two AMS meetings in the Central Section, one in the fall and one in the spring. These meetings often have posters sessions where undergraduate research is presented.
