Spring research expo: 26 April

All are invited to the MCL (SEO 709) on Wednesday, April 26 from 1 to 3 pm for the Spring research expo.

The end-of-semester research expo is the MCL’s main public event, where student research teams present posters and demonstrations of their work from the preceding semester. Faculty and graduate students who will be sponsoring upcoming MCL projects will also be on hand to answer questions. Attending the expo is a great way for UIC students to find out about undergraduate mathematical research opportunities. Pizza will be served.

Update (April 12): The time for the expo has been changed.

3D Printing Workshop: Visualizing 4 Dimensions

Curious about 3d-printing or the shape of 4-dimensional space? Join us this October for a four week workshop introducing 3d printing as a lens for viewing 4-dimensional objects. Participants in this workshop will learn how to model 4-dimensional objects in software and generate 3d shadows suitable for printing. At the end of the workshop each participant will generate their own shadow to print and keep. Previous experience is not required, though some familiarity with the Python computer programming language is helpful.

Interested students should come to the first workshop meeting on Wednesday, October 5 from 1pm to 2pm in SEO 706 to watch the 3d printer in action. Subsequent meetings will be Wednesdays in October.
